Testimony

The ONE Gallery – A Global Treasure in our Midst!

Just over 10 years ago in March of 2012 my wife, Dina, and I visited The ONE Gallery on Main Street in Unionville. We were most pleasantly surprised by what we found. We met internationally renowned artist, William Ho and his lovely wife, Carol, at that time. We were immediately impressed not just with the art in the Gallery, but by the life-meaning, life-defining sense of spirituality in how William described his work. He sees The ONE Gallery as the embodiment of his hope for his artistry – and his philosophy of the connectedness of all people to one another – to encourage all of us to see the good in everyone. The ONE Gallery is a treasure in our midst! The art here is of the highest quality and embodies William’s philosophy of oneness, of positive energy, of cultural connections across the world and the
importance of having centres of beauty such as The ONE Gallery in our communities. We live in a global community and The ONE Gallery brings that connectedness “home” to our local, daily lives in a beautiful way. You “feel” that connectedness through the art the moment you walk through the doors. You “feel” your place in your global community right here while standing in your local community – all in The ONE Gallery! A global treasure in our local midst!

Learning art at the One Gallery has brought me a greater understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, and my own identity as a Chinese Canadian.  It has helped me in my artistic and mindfulness practice – by teaching me to see and think differently, and eliciting present-moment awareness in a kind and curious manner.

Chinese art as taught at the One Gallery is a practice that involves patience, connection with one’s inner world, and creativity—important abilities for navigating the difficulties of daily life.  I’ve been able to take the teachings from this art form into my work as a mental health professional, both as a practice for my own health and wellness, and as opportunities to share and teach people facing mental health challenges.  Through the engagement in this art-making participants are able to view themselves as more than disabled people, but more rather as artists with their own vision and means of expression.  Having this and other art forms create non-threatening and culturally-relevant opportunities for experimentation and risk-taking—both of which can be difficult when facing mental health challenges.

Clients have been invited to the One Gallery (both in-person and virtually) to learn about Chinese culture, to ask questions and to view the creation of artwork.  These experiences have offered an opportunity to connect with others, feel welcome in their community, and to better appreciate the diversity of art.

My name is Caimei Su,

I would like to give my testimony on The ONE Gallery (TOG) where my daughter Phoebe Chen is currently taking art classes at The ONE Gallery.
Phoebe is very happy for getting great help in her emotional support and development (particularly in this COVID-19 time) at the The ONE Gallery art class.

She is attaining great sense of achievement to enhance her confidence in art and dealing with people.

Phoebe is also building strong creativity which will have great help to her future career development and life cultivation.
Phoebe really enjoys spending time with Mr. William Ho, her art teacher at The ONE Gallery.
We are so grateful for having the opportunity to learn art and life cultivation at The ONE Gallery.
Actually we think that more people should know more about The ONE Gallery, its art and contributions to our society.

Thanks a lot for your attention.

Caimei Su,
mother of Phoebe
